Iraq Faces Extreme Heatwave with Temperatures Reaching 50°C

The General Authority for Meteorology and Seismic Monitoring in Iraq has issued a stark warning regarding a severe heatwave currently gripping large swathes of the country. According to the latest data released on Thursday, 11 Iraqi provinces have recorded a significant and dangerous increase in ambient temperatures, presenting considerable challenges for the population.
The meteorological office reported that the mercury has soared to between 48 and 50 degrees Celsius across these affected areas. Most notably, three specific provinces have reached the critical 50-degree threshold, marking a peak in the ongoing intense summer season. This rapid rise in temperature follows a period of volatile weather patterns, highlighting the extreme conditions frequently faced by the region during this time of year.
