Al-Zubaidi: Houthi Crimes Against Southerners Will Not Go Unpunished

President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Yemen, Aidarus Al-Zubaidi, has issued a strong condemnation following a recent attack on the Al-Alam military camp located in the Shabwa Governorate. Al-Zubaidi described the assault as a heinous crime carried out by Houthi militias, whom he characterized as being supported by external Iranian influence.
In his official statement, Al-Zubaidi emphasized that such acts of aggression against the people of the South would not be forgotten. He underscored the position of the Southern Transitional Council, asserting that these crimes would not be subject to a statute of limitations. The remarks reflect the ongoing tensions within Yemen, as the STC seeks to maintain its security presence in the southern regions amid a complex and protracted civil conflict.
The incident at the Al-Alam camp highlights the precarious security environment currently facing Yemen’s southern territories. The camp has served as a strategic point of interest in the ongoing power struggle between the Houthi movement—which controls much of the country’s north—and the southern forces that advocate for a separate political administration or autonomy.
Al-Zubaidi’s rhetoric serves to galvanize local support and reaffirms the STC’s commitment to confronting what it terms “terrorist militias” operating within the country. The council has consistently blamed Houthi activities for the destabilization of southern provinces, citing recurring military strikes on infrastructure and personnel as evidence of a broader campaign of intimidation.
This latest condemnation comes at a critical time for regional efforts aimed at achieving a sustainable peace in Yemen. The STC remains a primary political and military actor in the southern regions, often positioning itself as a central barrier against Houthi expansion into territory south of the historical boundary between the former North and South Yemen.
The international community remains concerned about the frequent violations of security in Yemen, as the country grapples with one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises. While diplomatic channels seek to bring the various factions to the negotiating table, the persistent cycle of violence, including targeted strikes on military installations, continues to complicate the path toward a unified and stable governance structure.
Al-Zubaidi has reiterated that the security of the South is non-negotiable and has called for continued vigilance from his forces in response to what he describes as systematic aggression. The STC maintains that its resistance to the Houthi advance is essential to protecting the interests and rights of the southern population, ensuring that those responsible for such attacks face accountability for their actions.
